Pinoy BasketBalista

Talk N Text is a Smart Communication franchise owned by MVP and has been in the PBA since the Pepsi Hotshots in 1990. Their first championship ever were in 1998 Centennial Cup lead by Al Solis and Glen Capacia though the duration of the conference is only 2-3months with 2 imports. The Talk N Text went to a lot rebuilding until they found the gems from Asi-Alapag duo. It's only in 2003 in All Filipino they finally captured their first champion in regular conference.


As of now, the team are still on track on competing in the Finals lead by their main man Jayson Castro and RDO. Castro recently named as 40 Greatest Players joining his co-texters, Asi , Alapag and Kelly Williams.

Paul Alvarez turned pro in 1989 and was drafted third overall by Alaska Milk. He made an impact from his very first game delighting the crowd with his high-flying antics. Soon after, fans and TV announcers started calling him "Mr.Excitement".

Alvarez shattered the record for most points by an individual in a single-game held by Allan Caidic. He poured in 71 points in Alaska's 169-138 victory over Formula Shell on April 26, 1990. That same year, he made it to the Mythical five selection for the first time but injured his Achilles heel in Game 3 of the 1990 PBA Third Conference Finals against Purefoods

The former 6'5" standout of the UP Fighting Maroons was drafted 5th overall by the Alaska Milkmen in 1994. He had a decent beginning in his career but his moment came in 1996 when was awarded as the Most Improved Player of the Season. He was a key part of the 1996 Grand Slam Team of the Milkmen. In 2000, he was named as the Finals MVP of the 2000 PBA All-Filipino Cup. Returning to Alaska in the 2006-07 PBA season where we won another championship in 2007. He retired after the 2007-08 Season.

In a surprise move in March, 2008 the Alaska Aces traded Mike Cortez and Ken Bono for Magnolia’s LA Tenorio and Larry Fonacier. The Aces have been happy with the trade as they got a pure point guard in Tenorio to make life easier for Willie Miller who could now concentrate on his scoring.

In the first four games of the 2009-2010 KFC-PBA Philippine Cup Tenorio has not disappointed the Alaska expectation. As a starting point guard Tenorio led the Alaska team to a scrambling victory over San Miguel Beer in their first game. In their next three games Tenorio was ever the reliable point guard who led his team to the top of the standings in the PBA.

He was the 5th overall pick in the 2004 PBA draft selected by the Alaska Aces and he's also the tallest rookie picked in that class. In his early years, Sonny was backup Center for the Aces behind with the dominant bigman Ali Peek and E.J. Feihl in Alaska's Bigman Rotation.

Thoss is currently the oldest franchise player in the current Alaska rotation. Being a reliable big man, he's been an integral for Alaska Aces championships.

In 1994 he became an integral part of Alaska's success in the 1990s alongside Jojo Lastimosa, Johnny Abarrientos and import Sean Chambers. He became the Most Improved Player of the 1994 Season. In 1996, he was a part of the Grand Slam Team led by then-MVP Abarrientos. He was named to the Mythical Five and Mythical Second Team several times. He would play for the Milkmen until 2000.

In 2005-06 PBA season, he retired and worked for Tim Cone as one of his assistant coaches. During the 25th Anniversary of Alaska last September 27, 2010, his number 16 was retired along with Johnny's number 14. He is currently on the coaching staff for the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons Men's Basketball Team.

From Purefoods he was traded to Alaska Milk in 1991 for Cabahug. At Alaska, his career further blossomed as he became an integral part of the Triangle offense. In his first season with Alaska, Lastimosa played the best season of his career, leading the league in statistical points before narrowly losing the MVP award to former teammate Alvin Patrimonio . Lastimosa carried Alaska while Alavares is injured, which had its finest season in the league until that point, winning the first championship in franchise history in the Third Conference that year. He skippered the Milkmen to the 1996 Grand Slam together with eventual 1996 MVP Johnny Abarrientos, Bong Hawkins and Jeffrey Cariaso, only the fourth Grand Slam in the league's history. During his stay with Alaska, he became a permanent fixture in the "Mythical Team" selection.

In 1998, he again led the Alaska team to the championship of both the All-Filipino and Commissioner's Cups together with Abarrientos, Hawkins and Kenneth Duremdes. The Grand Slam was then again beckoning but his inclusion to the 1998 Centennial Team (together with Abarrientos and Duremdes) that played in the 1998 William Jones Cup (Champions) and the Bangkok Asian Games (Bronze Medal) prevented the team from repeating their 1996 feat.

In 2002, Lastimosa found his way back to the Alaska Aces franchise where he ended his career in 2003.

During halftime of their 2003 season opening game, Alaska retired Lastimosa's #6 jersey. During the off season, Lastimosa announced his retirement after playing 15 seasons in the league.

At the middle of the 2006 Philippine Cup, Miller was traded to the Alaska Aces as part of a big trade with the Phone Pals.Miller's backcourt partner would be Mike Cortez and with them, Jeffrey Cariaso, Sonny Thoss, and Reynel Hugnatan, the Aces took third-place honors during the conference after falling a game short against Purefoods for a finals berth.

In the 2006-07 Philippine Cup, Miller led Alaska in numerous categories for the injury-riddled Aces.

In the 2007 Fiesta Conference, he led the Alaska Aces with the help of 2007 PBA Fiesta Conference Best Import Rossell Ellis to the championships once again after 5 years. Winning the championship against Talk 'N Text in seven games despite being down 3-2 in the series making it the club's 12th title. He also bagged the PBA Most Valuable Player once again in that season, as well as the PBA Finals MVP.

In the 08-09 PBA Philippine Cup All-Filipino Conference, Miller won his second best player of the conference award, leading his team to the best record in the eliminations and eventually to the championship round. There, Miller performed superbly, averaging 15.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.5 assists and making some clutch plays. In Game 2, with Alaska down 84-89 with less than 7 minutes to play, he sparked a fiery rally, scoring six points in a decisive 16-0 run that eventually won them the game. Miller also played the hero in Game 5, where he scored 15 points, including an emphatic (and somewhat ill-advised) game-clinching three-pointer with 8.7 seconds remaining.

Duremdes is known for a big small forward at his time, like a Kevin Durant that can penetrates and can shot a clutch baskets. After his arrival with the 1996 Grandslam champions, Duremdes' career took a big rise. He had a strong showing with the Milkmen's Governors Cup title conquest of Purefoods.

In 1998, Duremdes led Alaska to the All-Filipino and Commissioner's Cup titles during the said year. He also won the Commissioner's Cup Best Player honors. Before leading the Philippines to a bronze-medal finish in the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Duremdes was named as the league's Most Valuable Player at age 24.

He would continue to have MVP numbers from 1999–2000, in which he led the Milkmen to the 2000 All-Filipino title. After becoming a free agent, he signed a reported 48 million peso to stay with the Aces in 2001, despite offers from teams such as the Mobiline Phone Pals. With Alaska focusing itself on rebuilding the team, Duremdes became the top man for the Aces along with young players John Arigo and Ali Peek. In 2002, he would again play for the country in the Busan Asian Games, becoming one of the most notable players on the squad. However, the squad failed to win a medal in the said event. Duremdes would then lead Alaska to a runner-up finish in the season-ending All-Filipino Conference.

In 2000, he became a member of the PBA's 25 Greatest Player's List, the youngest of the group.

 Technically Kerby played only a year with RedBull becaues he got banned in his rookie year (2000) due to falsified documents about his age. If he only stayed more with RedBull, he could be their franchise player. During his rookie years he's been an integral to get the RedBull's first ever championship.

One of the bad boys in Barako even the fans hate him because of his "Maangas" looks specially when he plays against the crowd favorite team's Ginebra. He's a smaller bad-boy version of Willie Miller with an attitude. He's the main man for Barako's grabbing it's 2002 Commisioners Cup Championship.

 He's the last player from the original lineup to play for the team before being traded to San Miguel Beermen. Mick Pennisi accusation is a solution to the team's lack of height because Raymundo got banned and it's only Davonn Harp has to work on the paint. Pennisi rare talent for a big man is a big help to Red Bull during their championships campaign.

Fonacier won the PBA Rookie of the Year award during the 2005–06 season, his first year in the PBA with the Red Bull Barako. He's the only Barako Bull to ever win the Rookie of the Year and also the steal of the draft to ever won it in his generation. Nicknamed the "Babyface Assassin", He played 55 games with the Barakos during the 2006–07 season, with 13 starts. During that time, he was named as an All-Star, and played for the North All-Stars team in the 2007 PBA All-Star Weekend.

Is one of the original member until the original Red Bull team disbanded along with Pennsi. His loyalty lasted to 9yrs when he got traded to Ginebra where his last team and officially retired in PBA due to injuries. Junthy in his prime is a pain in the arse Small Forward/Shooting Guard, he can shoot and post, then can defend his size. Junthy is one of the key players to reach Red Bulls 3x championships

During his rookie year, he played the support role but did well. Slowly, after Red Bull traded away its main men like Willie Miller, Kerby Raymundo, Lordy Tugade, Enrico Villanueva, and Mick Pennisi, he then emerged as the team's leading scorer and main skipper.

He led his team in scoring and in other departments during his time with Red Bull. And on his last year with the team, he ended his stint still scorching the net by being among the top 10 leading scorers in the league, and by being an All-Star caliber player.



















 

#3 Lordy Tugade

In 2000, Red Bull moved up to the PBA ranks as its 10th member. Newly installed head coach Yeng Guiao, the same man who guided the PBL as its commissioner from 1997–99, picked Tugade as one of six direct-hire players from their amateur team.
He played a limited role during his first three seasons in the league and was instrumental in Red Bull's two title victories in the 2001 and 2002 Commissioner's Cup tournaments.

By the 2004-05 season, Tugade's role increased after the franchise retooled its lineup following losses to Davonn Harp, Willie Miller, and for a while, Mick Pennisi. Along with Enrico Villanueva both led Red Bull to a surprising semifinals appearance in the 2005 Fiesta Conference.

At the 2005 Fiesta Conference, through the effort of Tugade and the other tough players from the team, Red Bull won the Fiesta Conference crown and the club's first title in four years. In Game 2 against the Purefoods Chunkee Giants, Tugade outscored all locals with 30 points before eventually winning the championship. He was named the Finals Most Valuable Player for the first time in his PBA career.

The next conference, Tugade averaged 56.7 percent from the three-point distance, the highest of his career and became the league's leading three-point shooter during the 2006 Philippine Cup. At the end of the season, he ranked fourth in the MVP race and became part of the First Mythical Team selection for the first time in his career.

#2 Enrico Villanueva

He was eventually selected seventh overall by Batang Red Bull Thunder. In his rookie season, he averaged modest numbers of 7.4 points and 4.5 rebounds playing a limited role as a reliever of veterans Davon Harp and Mick Pennisi.

However, after Harp and Pennisi were shelved for failing to further prove their Filipino lineage (Pennisi has since returned to the league), he saw his playing time increase along with his production. Despite a sorry performance in the 2004-05 PBA Philippine Cup, he managed to lead Red Bull to a fourth-place finish in the 2005 PBA Fiesta Conference. By season's end, he was named as the Most Improved Player by the league and became the new face of the franchise.

In the 2005–06 PBA season, he became a two-time All-Star representing the North All-Stars. He led Red Bull to the 2005–06 PBA Fiesta Conference championship where he was named as the Best Player of the Conference over Purefoods' Kerby Raymundo.

He again led the Bulls to the finals in the 2006 PBA Philippine Cup but lost to Purefoods, 4-2, in a rematch of the Fiesta Cup finals. By season's end, he was included in the PBA Mythical Team but lost in the MVP race to Purefoods' James Yap.

Though Miller only playerd for 3years with Barako before he got traded to Mobiline, his 3yrs tenure is a fruitful year for the Barako which is winning the 2 Finals in 2001 and 2002. He's the only Barako Bull until now to ever won the MVP .

In his first season, Miller was playing the backup role to Jimwell Torion at point guard but was able to contribute solid numbers in his PBA debut. He played a key role in Red Bull's 2001 Commissioners Cup championship upset of the San Miguel Beermen. In Game 5, he made a last-second block on Beermen import Nate Johnson to preserve the Thunder's victory, and a 3-2 series lead.

Fortunes change 2002, despite playing sparingly with Torion, Junthy Valenzuela and Lordy Tugade, Miller played a huge role for Red Bull. After an impressive performance against the RP-Hapee Training Pool in which he single-handedly led Red Bull to an overtime win over the Nationals, Miller performances alongside the impressive play of teammate Davonn Harp led to Red Bull's second PBA title in the 2002 Commissioners Cup.

He continued his play all the way to the All-Filipino Cup almost leading the Thunder to another finals berth. At season's end, he was selected to the PBA Mythical Team and won the PBA Most Valuable Player Award, the only player in league history to win the award with a scoring average below 10 points a contest. Miller beat teammate Harp for the award.

Miller continued to play his usual performances in the 2003, making it to the Mythical Team for the second straight season.

Could this be the final voyage of the thriller? At the age of 37 this could be his last run in the famous pro-basketball league in the Philippines for the reason his current team the Barako Bull decided to let him go. Sad how can be a great player ended like someone left out like nobody.

Miller started his career in the pro-league in MBA for Nueva Ecija Patriots, in that league he didn't play in his highest capacity because of his injury that time. Then, he got drafted in PBA as 1st overall pick by Red Bull and from there he started his THRILLER the Miller. He's a big pain for all guards even players like Mark Caguioa who were young and fresh that time didn't able contain his athleticism not until they became team mate in Bgy Ginebra.

Aging is a big factor why even great players are being left out unless you are like the ageless Asi Taulava. When a player is aging, his body is deteriorating and become more prone to injury which is a big burden to team's finance. At usual age like in 35, some players are already starting to fade  and left sit out then after couple more years, you won't see them anymore like bye-bye thanks for watching my show.
