It's Chinese New Year, I would like to greet all my Chinese friends out there, with a
Kung Hei Fat Choi!!!

I list down my TOP 10 Filipino-Chinese who played in the PBA however ... how will you rank and identify if the guy is a Chinese? Same problem we had with Fil-Ams???

In this generation, there will be no kid that has atleast 5% of Chinese blood because Filipino our already a mixed of Spanish+Chinese+Americans+OTHERS so it quite bedazzling to identify if you're really a pure or has NO CHinese blood. Add to the fact, most of the Chinese before changed their family name like Reyes, Mendoza and Dela Cruz. Some players like Dennis Espino , Danny Seigle, Elmer Cabahug, Olsen Racela , Japeth Aguilar and even Alvin Patrimonio are known to have Chinese descent but we are not going to the complexity of the matrix.

In this Ranking, will only ranks those are notable Chinese, probably pure or half. The ranking is based on their achievements, tenure in the league and notably known in the league.

#9 Chris Tiu

Tiu got drafted in the PBA a bit old at the age of 25 because he was focus on national team, Smart Gilas but stating the fact, he able to adjust himself in the big league and known dangerous in the 3pt line. Tiu is a multi-award player during his amateur years in Xavier where he was teamed up with Josepyh Yeo and Ty Tang who are  both playing in PBA.

Jeff Chan is also known as the Negros Sniper because of his killing clutch shot when he's hot. He has been compared with Allan Caidic because of his style of basketball but Chan refuses to get compared with the legend's name and wants to be known as what he is. Jeff Chan has been tested many times in the game, he's one memorable game was in the last FIBA Spain game where he fired up and all defense went on him because of his barrage of shots.

Teng  is known with his Defensive expertise that no one can penetrate like a Cop barricading his foe and with wall body like a Robot, the reason he got his monicker RoboCop. Teng is one of the key player for San Miguel Beermen grand slam, he's not really an offensive player but his Defense is really a big deal to their foe. Teng has already a 2nd generation playing in the PBA, his son Jeric Teng is currently in the roster of Rain or Shine.

Who won't forget the Michael Jordan of Asia? The Sky Walker is known with his  High-flying Daredevil Dunk, PBA won't be the same without his highlight, the reason most of the fans were watching for. Samboy did not win the MVP because of his reoccurring injuries that he usually gets on his acrobatic drives but despite of this, he still able to play his full 100% just for the sake of winning. A true sportmanship by heart and attitude , the reason the PBA started the Sportmanship award in his likeness.

Lim Eng Beng  supposedly in the TOP #1 because he's the very first  to recognize in the Fililipino Chinese community because of his excellent contribution in the Basketball. Lim has very humble beginning, he grew up in a poor family and only Basketball became his sole bread-and-butter. One of his big game was when he played in DLSU where he averages 32pts a game and also tallied his career high of 52pts. One of his big record is his 100% fieldgoal percentage in his entire career. Lim is like a legend for the Filipino-Chinese, because of him a lot of youngster followed his put steps that eventually the result of big names of Fil-Chinese that we have right now.

Fortunato Co or the Fortune-Cookie is a rare bread of a shooter, one of his best known with his orthodox footwork on shooting because he will shoot no matter what's his setup. He's very an offensive player that no matter what the circumstances he will take the shot and rain it. Too bad with all his talents in basketball he left it behind and focus himself on Showbizness, Atoy Co will be known in the PBA as one of the greatest pure shooter ever had, some of the players like Allan Caidic, Jeff Chan, Ritualo, Asaytono , Gary David and James Yap are following to his footsteps.

With all those massive numbers of award no-doubt James Yap is the Greatest Player who has Chinese blood. James Yap started his career as a big-shot James career in Bacolod Tay Tung highschool then moved to Iloilo, eversince then he got scouted to play in UE. In his College days, he became automatically the main-man of his team along with Tubid and Canaleta. Big Shot James already carrying bags of awards even before going to the big league of the PBA.

In the PBA, he got all the awards to what it takes to be known as one of the Greatest Player. In their last finals, his team PureFoods grabbed their first ever GrandSlam champion with all his help. With all these being said, James Yap will always be known as the Greatest Filipino-Chinese , unless Bimbi his son follow his step.

Stands at 5'8, Calma is known to be the Director because of his Ball-IQ on the floor and how he
manage his team and do his tactician jobs. Calma has not only shown his talent in the PBA, in international league he won some several medals. Calma will be remembered as one of the Greatest Pure Point-Guard ever played in PBA

#4 LA Tenorio

       Height : 5'8

He's probably should go a bit higher because of his talents , skills and added the fact he's just a 5'8
short. Tenorio started the PBA under the radar but because of his Ball IQ and insane ball hanlding
he shown the league that he can make his own name in PBA. During his Alaska tenure he's been
considered to be the next Flying-A but it did not able to surpass the Legend title instead he made his
own name.

#5 Bernard "Tough Job" Fabiosa

       Height : 5'9

He was one of the first "pure" point guards in the PBA. The original "Sultan of Swipes", he was a seven-time steals champion, four (4) with Crispa, two (2) with Shell and one (1) with Great Taste. He also topped the league in assists in 1981. He was a member of the Mythical Second Team in 1984. In 1981 he was the league leader in assists. Fabiosa finished his PBA career with 6,597 points (8.4 points per game), 2,837 assists (3.6 assists per game), and 1,261 steals (1.6 steals per game) in 788 games played from 1975-1991 in 19241:00 total minutes played. He converted 1,414/1876 FTs for a career average of 75.4%.

#6 Bal David

Height : 5'9


Who won't forget The Flash David in every young kids in the 90's, he's like the living Small David
beating out the Goliaths during his era specially that big shot he did in the face of the Giant Asi. David may not be award straded star but his charisma and making of big shots making loved by fans. He has the most clutch shots during the 90's and not just ordinary clutch shots but Big Time and 
contreversial.

#7  Eugene Quilban

Height : 5'8

In 1991, Eugene Quilban joined Alaska from the rookie draft to bolster the Alaska squad. Jojo Lastimosa was acquired after being taken from Purefoods in a trade with Elmer Cabahug. After a third-place showing in the All-Filipino, they returned to the finals of the Third Conference against crowd-favorite Ginebra San Miguel and former Laker Wes Matthews. Alvarez, Lastimosa, and their teammates dominated the series that saw them winning it, 3 games to 1 for their first title in team history.

Alvarez was then eased out of the team when his one-on-one style didn't suit the new offensive scheme being enforced by Tim Cone – the triangle offense. Quilban later left Alaska for 7-Up, in which he led the team to a finals loss to Swift.

Robinson is a solid and a defensive point guard. His career averages are 4.3 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game and 1 steals per game. Played for Montaña in the PBL alongside with Gary David, he was then was signed as a free agent by Yeng Guiao on 2003 to play for Red Bull Thunder as a back up point guard for Jimwell Torion.

big shot Asi Taulava.

Alapag has retired his duty for Gilas after serving for almost 10yrs to the national pool. In international league his known to be the greatest competent PG of the Philippines.

     He's known to be the Greatest Point-Guard in Asia in the last Asian game and FIBA Asia because of his ability to create plays and maneuver an offense all by himself. #7 Lim Eng Beng

Height : 5'11

Is the only pure Chinese to be included in the 25 Greatest in the PBA though he's considered to be Fil-Chinese later on . During his prime he shown the league his being a great tactician on the floor. In 1975 the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce quickly awarded him as one of the four Most Outstanding Youth in the Chinese-Filipino community. Continually playing in professional basketball from 1975 to 1986, he was among one of the few elite Chinese-Filipino athletes in the
Philippines to be recognized as a superstar athlete and have inspired many youths to follow his footsteps.He is also one of the best players in the sports history of the De La Salle University varsity team.
